Number the Stars

Number the Stars is an award winning book by Lois Lowry.

First of all, you need to know that this book is written in third person. So you will pretty much be updated on everything that's going on.11This book takes place in denmark, during world war two.12 Annemarie Johansen  (the main character) is christian. She has blond hair, she is tall and she is ten years old. The narrorater of the story is talking about the part. I know this because the narrerater keeps on saying 'was'.Annemarie tries her best to be one of the crowd so the Nazis  will not pay attention to her.13 Kirsten Johansen (also known as Kirsti, a minor character) is a stubborn five year old. Although nearly everyone is afraid of the soldiers, Kirsti is not. In fact, when a soldier touched her hair, she slapped his hand away from her! Annemarie and Kirsti are sisters. As you can see, Annemarie is the older sister. There was an older sister; Lise. Sadly Lise died. But, this is not about Lise.14 The significance of the relationship, of  Annemarie and Kirsti, is important in the book. The Nazi soldiers expect most little kids to tell the truth about every thing. Once, on a train, a Nazi soldier asked, Where are you going? The family replied with   We are going to visit our unkle henrik. Are you going to celebrate the New yar? said the Nazi soldier. They were confused, because in was October. Annemarie knew exacly what Kirsti was going to say.  This in our friend Ellen. It is her  New year. Annemarie thought (By the way, Ellen is  Jewish.)  But instead, Kirsti said; Do you like my new shiny black shoes?
The main problem in this book is the Nazis are invading, and everyone just wants to be free from them. Especially Jewish people because Hitler doesnt like them. But, Everyone has to suffer, because the nazis are taking all of Denmarks meat, for the war.
1 6  One aspect of the culture  described in this book is when they said that when someone died, they would put them in a coffin, and talk about that person. And we still do that today. Only, back then, they call a coffin, a casket.
The climax in this book is that since the nazis are starting to take all the jews from Denmark, the Rosens have to hide. But they can't hide with the Johansens.

17Once in the book, Ellen came over to the Johansens house to protect her self and sleptthere, if the soldiers did come to their apartment, Ellen would pretend to be Lise. And the soldiers actually came! They asked ' Who is the dark haired one?' and so Ellen  said 'I am Lise Johansen.'. But the soldiers wanted proof. So quickly, papa thought of something. He looked for a picture of Lise, as a baby and he found one. When Lise was a baby, she had brown hair. This Proves that it really is fictional, because it is kind of suspicius, that Lise just happened  to have brown hair like Ellen's when she was a baby.

18 One little idea a thought of in that the Nazi soldiers act like parents; always suspicius of what's going on. And they both sometimes have to punish you, only, the Nazis punish in a terribble way. Sometimes it could lead to death. As you can see, this book has no humor.
2 1   In the middle of the book, mama, Annemarie, kirsti, and ellen have to go to Gillejie to protect Ellen. It is hard to protect even themselves because they arn't used to Gillejie.
2 2 This is a sad book. Kids can't even play outside without being stopped by the Nazis. And worst of all, the two best friends: Annemarie and Ellen have to be separated because of their religion.
2 10  one sentence i liked was when Annemarie wenton this mission, and after unkule henrik said, ''Being brave is not thinking about the dangers to doing it, it is just thinking of what you must do." This phrase interests me because it shows that Annemarie is the true hero in the book.
Unkle henrik, mama and Annemarie are think the same. It is better for them to know as ittle as possible to do most tasks. But Annemarie keeps on figuring out everything.
In this book the main language is danish, but the soldiers speak german. The soldiers can use that so if a dane hears what they're talking about, and if in is important, they will be cluelessof what is happening.

The end of the book is more happy because finally, the war ended, and none of the main characters are dead.
